Senior Software Engineer – AI Products (SVP)

Overview

In this senior role you will design and deliver production-grade AI software and services at scale for Citi’s Enterprise AI Products team. You’ll own end-to-end solutions, combining experimentation with robust productionisation to address real-world banking problems like document processing, data extraction, translation, and fraud detection. The role blends exploration of AI models and practical hardening into dependable, auditable systems that meet regulatory demands. You will collaborate across products, risk, and platform teams to shape technical strategy and drive impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and support production-grade AI software and services that scale across the organisation
• Own technical solutions end-to-end, from problem definition and experimentation through deployment and improvement
• Develop Generative AI solutions for complex business problems (document processing, data extraction, classification, translation, fraud detection, workflow optimisation)
• Evaluate and experiment with AI models, prompts and architectures and productionise effective approaches
• Lead the technical design and architecture of AI products ensuring resilience, scalability, explainability and auditability
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Engineering and AI platform teams to meet business and regulatory requirements
• Partner with senior stakeholders to shape product vision and technical strategy
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to raise engineering standards
• Drive engineering practices through design reviews, testing and continuous improvement
• Troubleshoot complex distributed systems and improve performance, reliability and scalability
• Contribute to Citi’s AI technology and engineering procedures

Key requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, AI Engineer, Technical Lead or similar
• Hands-on software engineering with production systems experience
• Strong Python development skills
• Experience applying Generative AI and LLMs to real-world problems
• Experience designing prompts for Generative AI models
• Experience in Intelligent Document Processing, data extraction, NLP classification, translation, fraud detection or workflow automation
• Experience evaluating Generative AI applications and model performance; MLflow exposure advantageous
• Strong software architecture and functional programming knowledge
• Experience with PostgreSQL or Oracle; Kubernetes/OpenShift exposure advantageous
• CI/CD and modern tooling (Jenkin(s), uDeploy, Tekton, Harness)
• Exposure to Agentic AI and ADK
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; troubleshooting distributed systems
• Ability to work in a regulated environment with resilience, explainability and auditability
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders
• Creative, adaptable mindset to turn ambiguous problems into dependable production solutions
