Senior Software Developer for Cash Management Team

Overview

In this role you will own backend solutions end-to-end for Wise’s Cash Management domain, partnering with product managers and banks to design, build, test, and operate scalable services. You will work across system boundaries to define clear interfaces and improve reliability, observability, and performance. You’ll contribute to cross-functional teams and mentor engineers while shaping how we move money for partners and their customers. This is a hands-on role with strong ownership and opportunities to influence architecture and delivery at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own solutions from problem to production, collaborating with product managers and engineers to deliver backend services
• Make thoughtful technical decisions balancing delivery time, reliability, and maintainability
• Build across system boundaries and define interfaces with other teams
• Improve operational excellence through testing, observability, and diagnosing production issues
• Contribute across workstreams, share domain knowledge, and mentor engineers
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable services in Java/Spring Boot within a microservices setup
• Apply domain-driven design to build robust solutions
• Lead event-driven development using Kafka or similar messaging systems
• Architect and optimise PostgreSQL databases for performance and scalability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support partner integrations and global expansion
• Participate in code reviews and champion best practices

Key requirements

• Hands-on experience building or contributing to large-scale distributed systems
• Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems and OO language
• Product mindset with ability to articulate customer problems and value of solutions
• Ability to take ownership autonomously and engage others as needed
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Curiosity about the business domain and partner usage of products
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka or PostgreSQL (useful)
• Payments/fintech domain knowledge or related areas (useful)
• Ability to use product metrics and data to guide decisions (useful)
