Lead Azure DevOps Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead a high-performing Agile delivery team to design, build, automate and support secure Azure cloud infrastructure. You set technical direction, plan work, ensure delivery quality and govern architecture decisions. You’ll drive platform engineering, including IaC, CI/CD pipelines and secure, scalable solutions, collaborating with Architects, Developers and Scrum roles. This position offers impact across regulated environments and opportunities to shape cloud platforms in a mission-driven, leadership-capable setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical leadership and assign work by priorities and plan
• Plan platform engineering activity across sprints and ensure backlog readiness
• Direct sprint planning, refinement, delivery, reviews and retrospectives
• Review and approve work against criteria, security controls and documentation
• Maintain RAID log with owners, impacts and mitigations
• Support project plan with estimates, sequences, dependencies and forecasts
• Record technical decisions in a decision log and provide governance reporting
• Liaise with Architecture to implement approved high-level designs
• Produce and approve low-level designs covering interfaces, deployment and operations
• Identify design gaps and obtain approvals before implementation
• Capture architecture decisions and deviations in documentation

Key requirements

• Strong Azure platform experience (Databricks, Functions, IAM/RBAC, Storage, Networking, VMs, Key Vault, Monitoring)
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
• Azure DevOps Pipelines and CI/CD implementation
• Azure DevOps Repos/Git and branching strategies
• Docker and Docker Compose
• Security and vulnerability scanning (e.g., Trivy)
• Bash and/or Python scripting and automation
• Azure networking (VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, DNS)
• Monitoring and troubleshooting Azure environments
• Experience in highly regulated/secure environments, incl. air-gapped solutions
• Agile/Scrum delivery experience
• Fluent written and spoken English
