Clearance: Active SC required before starting
The role
We are looking for a Senior Solutions Architect to provide technical leadership across complex cyber and secure engineering programmes supporting critical UK missions.
You will lead the design of secure, resilient and integrated solutions across infrastructure, applications, data, networking and cloud. Working closely with customers, delivery teams and senior stakeholders, you will translate business requirements into practical architectures and guide key technical decisions.
The role also includes contributing to technology roadmaps, supporting bids and proposals, and developing architectural capability across the wider technical community.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for solution design across large programmes or multiple related projects.
- Define and develop architectures that meet customer requirements, enterprise principles and secure system design standards.
- Lead technical reviews, options assessments and risk evaluations to support major design decisions.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps, identifying opportunities to introduce new capabilities and improve existing solutions.
- Represent the technical team at senior customer meetings and architecture governance boards.
- Support business development through solution strategy, bid writing and proposal development.
- Promote architectural best practice, reuse and model based design.
- Mentor and coach colleagues across the architecture and engineering community.
- Work within Agile or SAFe delivery environments to ensure architectural decisions support programme delivery.
Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience designing secure, integrated solutions across infrastructure, applications, data, networking and cloud.
- Practical experience with AWS.
- Strong knowledge of TOGAF and familiarity with relevant architecture frameworks such as MODAF or NAF.
- Advanced understanding of secure system design principles and cyber security standards.
- Experience shaping architectures within Agile or SAFe delivery environments.
- Ability to influence technical strategy and provide authoritative guidance on complex design decisions.
- Strong communication skills, with experience engaging senior technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring colleagues and sharing architectural knowledge.
Desirable skills and experience
- Relevant certifications, such as TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect or ArchiMate.
- Experience contributing to technology roadmaps and enterprise strategy.
- Knowledge of service design, operational transformation and digital modernisation.
- Familiarity with cloud native technologies, DevSecOps and automation.
- Experience supporting bids, proposals and business development.
- Experience presenting at technical boards, customer forums or industry events.
- Experience within government, defence or other security sensitive environments.
About you
You will be comfortable taking ownership of complex architectural challenges and explaining technical decisions clearly. You will combine sound technical judgement with a collaborative approach, helping customers and delivery teams agree solutions that are secure, practical and maintainable.
Security requirements
Active SC clearance is required before starting. Candidates cannot begin the assignment on baseline clearance alone.
