Join Elexon’s Rules Management team and play a key role in shaping digital products, improving customer experiences and driving innovation across the GB electricity market.
We’re looking for a Product Owner (Grade 11) to join our Rules Management team at Elexon.
In this role, you’ll lead the development and continuous improvement of digital products, customer journeys and business processes that support the management and governance of electricity industry rules.
You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, customers and third-party delivery partners to translate business needs into clear product strategies, roadmaps and measurable improvements. Combining strategic product ownership with hands‑on business analysis, you’ll identify opportunities, develop investment cases and oversee product delivery from initial discovery through to implementation and benefits realisation.
You’ll also play an important role in Elexon’s wider digital transformation, helping to simplify and improve how customers access, understand and interact with industry rules and services.
What you’ll do:
Own and develop the product vision, strategy and roadmaps, aligning customer needs with business priorities and governance requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve digital products, customer journeys and business processes through research, customer feedback and data analysis.
Develop and present business and investment cases, evaluating costs, benefits, risks and opportunities to support investment decisions.
Define and monitor business and customer benefits, establishing clear success measures and tracking outcomes.
Lead business analysis activities, including process mapping, stakeholder workshops and requirements gathering.
Own and manage product backlogs in Azure DevOps, translating requirements into epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria.
Prioritise product enhancements, defects and technical debt based on business value, customer needs and available resources.
Work closely with Agile delivery teams, supporting planning, backlog refinement and reviews to ensure successful delivery.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers and third‑party suppliers, managing competing priorities and delivery expectations.
Review delivered solutions against agreed requirements, supporting testing, migration, release readiness and customer adoption.
Manage product budgets and support investment planning in line with Elexon’s governance processes.
Use customer feedback, product performance data and benefits analysis to identify and deliver continuous improvements.
Support workshops, training and knowledge sharing to encourage effective product management and change practices.
What you’ll bring:
Proven experience in digital product ownership, including developing product strategies, managing roadmaps and delivering measurable outcomes.
Strong customer focus, with experience using research, journey mapping, feedback and analytics to improve customer experiences.
Experience developing and presenting business and investment cases, including assessing costs, benefits and risks.
The ability to identify, measure and track business and customer benefits to demonstrate successful product delivery.
Strong business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, process mapping, stakeholder workshops and validation.
Practical experience working in Agile delivery environments, including managing product backlogs, writing user stories and defining acceptance criteria.
A good understanding of commercial and technical considerations, with the ability to manage budgets and assess delivery proposals.
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with confidence managing competing priorities.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and develop practical solutions.
The ability to work independently, taking ownership of both strategic product direction and detailed delivery activities.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and adapt to changing business requirements.
A proactive, collaborative approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.
It would also be beneficial if you have:
Knowledge of digital products, systems and their interactions, particularly within customer-focused or regulated environments.
An understanding of Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) Procedures, including BSC document architecture.
Knowledge of GB electricity market arrangements.
Awareness of developments within the GB electricity market and their potential impact on Elexon’s systems, processes and services.
