Company: New-Chapters-Support-and-Wellbeing
Apply for the Support Worker (Severn Beach, Bristol)
Location: Severn Beach
Job Description:

New Chapters is a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live independently within a supported environment.

We are seeking a caring and dedicated Support Worker in the Severn Beach area of Bristol, close to the train station, to support an individual with autism on a 2:1 basis.

The person we support enjoys spending time in the community and loves swimming, so we are looking for a driver who can match their enthusiasm in these activities and support them to lead an active and fulfilling life.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Encouraging the person we support to participate in activities they enjoy and pursue their interests, including supporting them in the local community.
  • Co-ordinating scheduled activities and appointments using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring all planned activities are attended.
  • Assisting with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting and grooming, while maintaining dignity and privacy, or supporting and prompting the person to undertake these tasks independently where appropriate.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies when required.
  • Taking the lead in developing and implementing care plans and maintaining accurate records.

Shifts are typically 12 or 14 hours long, and support workers are expected to undertake regular sleep-ins, usually around once per week. Sleep-ins are paid in addition to your hourly rate.

What we’re seeking from you

  • Experience as a Support Worker within a supported living setting.
  • A genuine desire to support people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and/or behaviours that may challenge.
  • The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations, particularly when responding to challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, including the ability to support people who use different methods of communication.
  • Good standards of English, literacy and numeracy.
  • A commitment to ongoing personal development and training.

Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visas for new applicants. We can only progress applications from candidates who already have the right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.

Benefits

There are many great reasons to join our team, including:

  • Competitive pay of £13.25 per hour, with opportunities to increase earnings through sleep-ins.
  • Free and confidential wellbeing support, available online and via telephone.
  • Access to a wellbeing hub and online training through our learning platform.
  • Eligibility to join the Blue Light Card scheme.
  • A birthday gift and long-service reward.
  • Support to gain NVQ qualifications while government funding remains available.
