Lab technician

5V Tech are working with a well-established supplier of advanced inspection equipment with over 20 years in the market and strong backing from a large international group. Alongside the equipment side, they run an in-house inspection lab that customers rely on to find out what’s really going on inside their electronics, across data centre hardware, automotive and aerospace.

The work carries real weight (their findings have grounded aircraft), and no two days look the same.

They’re looking for someone to take ownership of the lab and help grow it, with a clear path into running it and building a team of technicians.

What you’ll be working on:

• Non-destructive inspection and analysis of customer samples, from semiconductors and PCBs to potted assemblies
• Operating 2D and 3D X-ray, acoustic microscopes, optical microscopes and functional test equipment, with new capabilities being added
• Managing jobs end to end, from quoting through to processing and reporting
• Presenting findings to specialist customers through images, emails, video calls and formal reports
• Booking in and handling samples under ESD procedures, keeping job records and ordering consumables
• Helping shape how the lab grows, with the opportunity to step into a lab management role

What they’re looking for:

• A background in electronics, through industry experience or a relevant degree
• A sharp analytical, investigative mindset and genuine attention to detail
• Confidence learning technical lab equipment and new techniques
• The ability to explain technical findings clearly, in writing and face to face
• Good organisation across several customer jobs at once
• Familiarity with SMT and THT technologies and assembly techniques
• Hands-on X-ray inspection experience
• Experience writing formal technical reports

Important things to know:

• This is a fully onsite, lab-based role
• Relocation is welcome, but there’s no relocation package
