The Major Projects Team is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and collaborative professional with strong electrical engineering and technical abilities to join our busy and growing department. This key role includes supporting the design, delivery and management of construction projects along with dedicated electrical works and providing essential support to the Senior Electrical Engineer and Major Projects Team Manager.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of Electrical Engineering and Construction Project work. The team is currently delivering a range of exciting schemes, including new schools, childcare facilities, community buildings, and other strategic projects across the authority. With a strong pipeline of upcoming work, the department is committed to providing high quality, sustainable assets for the future. You will also contribute to electrical design and management services relating to existing buildings and certain elements of cyclical and reactive works.
We are looking for a team player who is also confident working independently when required. You will bring strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assist in the design, specification, and delivery of electrical building services installations on a variety of projects. A passion for sustainable and efficient engineering solutions is essential, along with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards, including the CDM Regulations and the current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
The successful candidate will support the development and review of electrical designs, undertake site inspections and surveys, monitor installation quality, and work closely with consultants, contractors, clients, and other design team members throughout the project lifecycle. Experience of energy efficiency measures, low-carbon technologies, and Net Zero Carbon objectives is highly desirable. A good understanding, with demonstrable experience, of delivering projects under JCT traditional building contracts would be advantageous but not essential.
We value ambition, drive, and pride in one’s work, and we will support and encourage your progression toward membership of relevant professional institutions such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). This role offers a predominantly hybrid/remote working arrangement, although you will be expected to attend the office when necessary and undertake site or client visits where required.
We welcome applications from individuals with relevant industry experience who bring the right skills, attitude, and commitment to delivering high quality public sector projects that help improve outcomes for people of all ages.
Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
A valid driving licence is requirement for this post.
The council’s Hybrid Working Policy applies to this post. This provides a framework for establishing how you will undertake working hours between your home and the office.
