Senior Software Developer II – Wise for Banks

Overview

In this senior backend role, you own end-to-end solutions that move and settle money for Wise’s Cash Management partners. You will design, build, test and operate backend services that meet partner needs, balancing delivery speed with reliability. You’ll collaborate across product, engineering and banks to define interfaces and improve system observability. This is a hands-on, autonomy-rich role with opportunities to broaden technical ownership as the team grows. You’ll work in a mission-driven environment focused on scalable, dependable money movement for partners worldwide.

• Starting salary: 111,000 – 145,000 + RSUs

Responsibilities

• Own solutions from problem to production, collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape the approach and deliver backend services.
• Make thoughtful technical decisions, tradeoffs, and balance delivery time with reliability and maintainability.
• Build across system boundaries by coordinating with other teams on interfaces and impact on the payment journey.
• Improve systems through testing, observability, and diagnosing production issues to increase dependability.
• Help the team succeed through participation in reviews, pairing and mentoring with other engineers.
• Deepen understanding of funding, settlement and currency conversion to inform product and engineering decisions.

Key requirements

• Hands-on experience building or contributing to large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems and OOP language proficiency.
• Product mindset: ability to explain customer problems and how solutions matter.
• Autonomy to own work, manage ambiguity, and involve others when needed.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
• Curiosity about business domain and willingness to learn partner usage of products.
