Senior Information Technology Engineer

Company: Burns Sheehan Limited
Apply for the Senior Information Technology Engineer
Location: London
Job Description:

London (Hybrid, 2 days a week in the office)

Here at Burns Sheehan, we’re working exclusively with a high-growth FinTech company as they look to hire a Senior IT Engineer into their growing IT team.

Supporting around 800 people, the team is looking for someone to focus on engineering and project work, rather than day-to-day support. The aim is to improve how IT operates by identifying recurring problems, automating manual processes and building solutions that make life easier for colleagues across the business.

As a Senior IT Engineer, you’ll report directly to the Head of IT, taking ownership of improvements across automation, endpoint security, monitoring and internal tooling. You don’t need to have every tool or technology mastered already, but you’ll need strong technical fundamentals, a genuine interest in solving problems and the confidence to take ideas through to delivery.

What you’ll be working on

  • Identifying recurring IT issues and building scripts, automations and AI-assisted tools to reduce manual work.
  • Improving security across devices, SaaS applications and the wider IT environment.
  • Developing monitoring and reporting to identify issues before they affect colleagues.
  • Taking ownership of engineering projects, from identifying opportunities through to implementation and documentation.
  • Exploring new tools and processes to improve the way the IT team operates.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in IT engineering, internal IT support or endpoint management, ideally within a SaaS-led environment.
  • Hands-on scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash or similar, with examples of what you’ve automated.
  • Experience managing and securing endpoints as well as an understanding of security, monitoring and access management, with an interest in improving how these are handled.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to question existing processes and suggest better ways of working.
  • Experience using AI to build or improve scripts, automations or tools, with the ability to validate the output before using it in live environments.

The key is finding someone who enjoys getting under the bonnet of a problem, working out how to fix it and building something better. You might already be working in an engineering-focused role, or be a strong IT Support Engineer looking to move into more automation and project work.
