About Amber Labs

Amber Labs is a fast-growing UK technology consultancy delivering digital transformation across enterprise, government and regulated sectors. We specialise in cloud, data, software engineering, user-centred design and AI, helping organisations deliver better services through modern technology and agile ways of working.

We’re currently supporting a major UK government digital programme and are looking for an experienced Data Architect to help shape the data foundations of a new regulatory digital service. The role will focus on designing robust data models and integration approaches that connect public-facing digital journeys with internal case management systems, ensuring information can be managed accurately, securely and consistently.

The Role

As a Data Architect, you will lead the development and assurance of data models for a complex regulatory service, defining how information about organisations, premises, individuals, responsibilities, notifications and supporting documents is structured and connected.

Working closely with product managers, technical architects, engineers and operational stakeholders, you’ll translate evolving business rules into clear conceptual and logical data models, helping delivery teams understand how information should be captured, validated, linked and maintained throughout its lifecycle.

A key focus will be designing and assuring data integration with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dataverse, including data mappings, entity relationships, system-of-record ownership and integration contracts. You’ll also address important data architecture considerations such as organisational identity, premises and address data, delegated access, data quality, audit trails and information retention.

This role is ideal for a senior Data Architect who can bring structure to complex business relationships, make sound architectural decisions in an agile environment and ensure the data design supports both the public-facing service and the operational teams responsible for managing regulatory notifications and casework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain conceptual and logical data models for complex digital services.
  • Define data entities, relationships, attributes, identifiers and reference data to support evolving business requirements.
  • Model complex relationships between organisations, premises, individuals, roles, responsibilities and regulatory records.
  • Translate business rules and user needs into clear, maintainable data architecture.
  • Produce proportionate architecture artefacts, including data models, data dictionaries and architecture decision records.
  • Identify data-related risks, assumptions and dependencies early to inform delivery planning and design decisions.

Data Integration & Case Management

  • Define and assure data integration between public-facing digital applications and back-office case management platforms.
  • Apply experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dataverse to support entity relationships, data structures and integration patterns.
  • Define data mappings, transformation rules, validation requirements and integration contracts.
  • Establish clear data ownership and identify authoritative sources for key entities and attributes.
  • Work with technical architects and engineering teams to ensure integrations are reliable, secure and maintainable.
  • Support the design of document metadata, record associations and audit trails across the service.

Data Governance, Quality & Security

  • Ensure data architecture supports appropriate security, privacy, access control and information governance requirements.
  • Define approaches to data retention, archiving, deletion, auditability and information lifecycle management.
  • Develop approaches to data validation, deduplication, consistency and quality assurance.
  • Address data challenges involving addresses, organisational identities, unique identifiers and changes in responsibility.
  • Ensure data structures support operational casework, reporting and appropriate analytical needs.
  • Collaborate with security and information governance specialists to support compliance with relevant data protection requirements.

Collaboration & Architectural Assurance

  • Work closely with product managers, service designers, policy stakeholders and operational teams to understand data requirements and evolving business rules.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, solution architects and existing platform teams to ensure consistent architectural decisions.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and contribute to wider architectural decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to reuse existing data capabilities and improve interoperability across systems.
  • Provide clear technical guidance to multidisciplinary agile teams.
  • Support delivery teams in establishing an agreed data model, integration approach and prioritised set of architectural decisions.
  • Active SC Security Clearance.
  • Significant experience designing data architectures for complex transactional digital services.
  • Strong conceptual and logical data modelling skills, including complex entity relationships and organisational structures.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or Dataverse, including data modelling and integration patterns.
  • Experience designing data flows between public-facing applications and operational back-office systems.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, privacy, security, retention and audit requirements.
  • Ability to define data mappings, transformation rules, validation requirements and integration contracts.
  • Experience working with document management, case records and auditability requirements.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into practical data architecture decisions.
  • Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams with evolving or incomplete requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, technical communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, influence technical decisions and identify risks and dependencies proactively.
  • Experience delivering digital services within government or other regulated environments.
  • Background in regulatory services, case management or compliance-focused platforms.
  • Experience modelling complex relationships between organisations, premises, people and delegated responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of address reference data, organisational identity management and data deduplication.
  • Experience supporting event-driven integrations and operational reporting architectures.
  • Familiarity with government digital delivery practices and information governance frameworks.
