Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will play a key role in managing engineering, infrastructure and technical design matters from land feasibility through to construction.

This is a varied and hands‑on role, working closely with internal teams, consultants, statutory authorities and external stakeholders to ensure engineering solutions are practical, cost-effective, compliant and aligned with programme requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Technical knowledge related tasks

  • Lead highway adoption and approval processes, including Section 38 agreements, Section 278 agreements, Minor Works Agreements and required licences.
  • Work with highway authorities to progress road layouts, junction designs, off‑site works, vehicle tracking and visibility requirements.
  • Manage Section 104 drainage adoptions and technical submissions for foul water, surface water, attenuation and sustainable drainage proposals.
  • Coordinate with water companies, Local Lead Flood authorities and drainage boards to secure approvals and support levels and drainage infrastructure strategies.
  • Coordinate reinforced concrete frame structural detailing, architectural interfaces and engineering design with internal teams and consultants.
  • Support remediation strategies, ensuring design solutions respond to site conditions and wider technical requirements.
  • Tender, instruct and manage site investigations, utility surveys and topographical surveys.
  • Review geotechnical and geo-environmental reports, contributing to contamination assessments and remediation strategies.
  • Feed engineering requirements into utility strategies and coordinate diversions, new supplies and protection works.
  • Work with the in‑house utilities team to ensure layouts and phasing reflect key utility constraints.

Collaboration, coordination and cost control

  • Prepare and manage engineering budgets and provide cost advice throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor engineering‑related costs, identify risks and support cost control through design development and delivery.
  • Support procurement and tender processes, including preparing scopes, reviewing returns and advising on appointment recommendations.
  • Coordinate consultants, engineers and internal teams to ensure technical information is issued clearly and in line with programme requirements.
  • Work closely with planning, design, commercial, construction and technical teams to resolve constraints and support delivery.
  • Chair and contribute to design team meetings, ensuring actions are captured, followed up and progressed.
  • Liaise with external authorities, statutory bodies, utility providers and consultants to secure approvals and progress key technical matters.
  • Ensure engineering considerations are reflected in planning submissions, working drawings, design updates and wider project documentation.
  • Build strong working relationships across internal and external teams to support communication, decision‑making and problem‑solving.
  • Provide clear updates on technical progress, risks, approvals, costs and key actions to relevant stakeholders.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience within residential development, engineering consultancy, or housebuilding.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning, adoption and regulatory frameworks.
  • Competent in interpreting geotechnical, structural and engineering reports.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of RC‑frame structural principles.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake regular site visits.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Proactive and solution‑focused approach.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness of cost drivers in development engineering.
  • Collaborative team‑oriented working style.
