Apply for the HV Engineering Specialist – Data Centres
Location: London
Job Description:

Tyréns UK is building dedicated technical leadership for its growing data centre practice and is seeking an HV Engineering Specialist who combines deep expertise in power and grid connectivity with strong client-facing and commercial credibility. This is a visible technical leadership role with clear accountability for generating opportunities, winning advisory commissions and contributing to the sector’s sales and revenue targets.

Purpose of the role

Power strategy and grid connectivity are among the most critical factors shaping data centre development. This role will provide dedicated leadership in this area, strengthening Tyréns UK’s ability to advise clients from early-stage site assessment and capacity strategy through technical due diligence, connection planning and delivery risk management.

The specialist will work across the combined Tyréns UK offer. Tyréns Hilson Moran contributes expertise in power, MEP engineering, sustainability, environment and technical advisory, while Tyréns AKT brings internationally recognised structural and civil engineering, design innovation and complex-project delivery capability. Together, these disciplines create a genuinely integrated proposition for data centre clients.

The successful candidate will lead the power and grid proposition, manage engagement with DNOs, IDNOs and NESO, and convert technical credibility into trusted client relationships, fee-earning advisory work and sustainable sales growth.

Key responsibilities

Technical leadership

  • Lead power and grid strategy across Tyréns UK data centre projects and pursuits.
  • Undertake technical due diligence, capacity reviews and risk assessments for live and prospective opportunities.
  • Provide clear, decision-focused advice on grid connectivity, programme, cost and delivery risk.
  • Act as the senior technical authority for HV engineering within the data centre sector.

Sales and commercial contribution

  • Own and deliver an agreed personal or service-line sales target for HV, power and grid-related advisory services.
  • Generate qualified opportunities through client relationships, utility engagement, market activity and collaboration with the Sector Lead.
  • Lead the technical and commercial development of HV and grid-related proposals, pursuits and fee submissions.
  • Convert early-stage technical conversations into paid due diligence, capacity, connection and power-strategy commissions.
  • Contribute to the sector’s wider order-intake, revenue, margin and pipeline targets and maintain accurate forecasts for relevant opportunities.
  • Identify and develop cross-selling opportunities for Tyréns Hilson Moran and Tyréns AKT services.

Utility and system-operator engagement

  • Lead engagement with DNOs, IDNOs and NESO on connection, capacity and network issues.
  • Build and maintain the relationships and market intelligence needed to keep advice current, practical and commercially relevant.

Multidisciplinary client engagement

  • Represent Tyréns UK in senior client discussions, industry events and market forums as a recognised authority on power and grid strategy for data centres.
  • Work with Tyréns AKT structural and civil engineering teams and Tyréns Hilson Moran MEP, sustainability, environment and advisory teams to shape integrated solutions.
  • Translate complex power and grid constraints into clear commercial choices and coordinated multidisciplinary responses.
  • Support the Sector Lead in strategic pursuits where technical insight is critical to establishing trust and shaping the opportunity.

Capability development

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and quality assurance to colleagues working across the data centre sector.
  • Build broader capability in power, grid connectivity and technical due diligence through coaching, knowledge-sharing and consistent technical standards.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable expertise in HV engineering, power strategy and grid connectivity, ideally within the data centre or mission‑critical infrastructure sector.
  • A record of generating, winning or expanding fee‑earning technical advisory work and contributing to sales targets.
  • A recognised reputation among data centre developers, supported by relevant relationships, project experience or wider market recognition.
  • Direct experience engaging with DNOs, IDNOs and/or NESO on live connection, capacity or network issues.
  • Confidence operating with clients, developing technical propositions and representing an organisation externally.
  • A strong track record in technical due diligence and risk assessment for complex infrastructure or mission‑critical projects.
  • The ability to communicate complex power and grid issues clearly to technical and non-technical decision‑makers.

Desirable experience

  • Chartered status through the IET, IMechE or an equivalent professional institution.
  • Experience within a professional services or engineering consultancy environment.
  • Understanding of the wider data centre development lifecycle beyond power and grid connectivity.
  • Experience identifying multidisciplinary opportunities involving structural, civil, MEP, sustainability, environmental and technical advisory services.

Performance measures

  • Achievement of the agreed personal or service-line sales target for HV, power and grid advisory services.
  • Value and quality of qualified opportunities generated and supported.
  • Order intake, fee revenue, margin and win rate for relevant pursuits and commissions.
