The role is remote, with a focus on candidates in the South Wales area.
The salary is £72,000, with a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
About The Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will take a hands‑on approach to securing and improving modern enterprise environments. You will work across Microsoft technologies and cloud platforms, helping to reduce risk through practical engineering, effective control implementation and continuous improvement.
This is not a traditional Security Operations Centre (SOC) position. While you will contribute to threat detection and incident response, the primary focus is building, enhancing and embedding security controls across the organisation. You will collaborate with infrastructure, cloud and project teams to ensure that security is considered in technology decisions and solutions from the outset. You will also provide clear, practical guidance to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Practical experience with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel.
- Knowledge of Azure security controls and secure cloud configuration.
- Experience with Entra ID, Conditional Access, Identity Protection and identity governance.
- Understanding of Privileged Identity Management and access control practices.
- Experience supporting vulnerability management, remediation planning and risk reduction.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Purview or other data protection and information governance capabilities.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF and CIS Controls.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain security risks and recommendations to different audiences.
Responsibilities
- Enhance and optimise Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel capabilities across the technology estate.
- Design, implement and improve security controls within Azure environments.
- Lead improvements to Entra ID security, Conditional Access, Identity Protection and Privileged Identity Management.
- Drive vulnerability management activities, coordinate remediation planning and support measurable risk reduction.
- Implement and maintain data protection and information governance controls using Microsoft Purview.
- Partner with infrastructure, cloud and project teams to embed security into new and existing technology solutions.
- Contribute to incident response and improve threat detection capabilities based on emerging risks and lessons learned.
- Provide technical security advice and help stakeholders understand control requirements and potential impacts.
- Support compliance with recognised security frameworks and contribute to the ongoing maturity of the organisation’s security controls.
Benefits
The package includes a salary of £72,000 and up to a 10% discretionary bonus. Additional benefits include flexible working arrangements, 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and a pension contribution of up to 15%.
