With more than 30 years of experience, we produce an extensive portfolio of consumer and business-to-business print and digital publications, serving passionate audiences across aviation, railways, road transport, military history, sport, modelling and other specialist leisure markets.
Our portfolio combines established magazine brands with growing digital platforms, connecting specialist audiences with the advertisers, products and services they value.
We are now looking for a motivated and commercially minded Media Sales Executive to join our hobbies portfolio, working across Hornby Magazine, Airfix Model World and keymodelworld.com.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive telephone sales professional to develop advertising revenue across a portfolio of well-established specialist brands.
Working remotely, you will be responsible for building relationships with advertisers, winning new business and developing existing accounts. You will sell a range of advertising solutions across print and digital platforms, helping businesses reach highly engaged audiences within the model railway and scale modelling markets.
The role will suit someone who enjoys speaking to customers, identifying commercial opportunities and turning conversations into sales. You will take ownership of your sales pipeline, manage your own workload and work towards clear revenue targets, with the support of an established publishing business.
Key Responsibilities
- New business development: Identify, research and approach potential advertisers through proactive telephone sales, email and other appropriate channels.
- Advertising sales: Promote print advertising, digital advertising and cross-platform campaign opportunities across the hobbies portfolio.
- Account management: Build strong relationships with existing clients, retain their business and identify opportunities to increase advertising spend.
- Lead generation: Research prospective customers, qualify leads and develop a consistent pipeline of new business opportunities.
- Sales presentations: Prepare tailored proposals, recommend suitable advertising packages and demonstrate the value of reaching specialist enthusiast audiences.
- Negotiation and closing: Negotiate advertising rates and campaign terms to secure profitable business and achieve agreed sales targets.
- Pipeline management: Maintain accurate CRM records, track opportunities and ensure sales activity and forecasts are kept up to date.
- Campaign collaboration: Work with editorial, marketing and digital colleagues to develop effective advertising solutions that meet client objectives.
- Commercial growth: Monitor market opportunities, identify prospective advertisers and contribute ideas to grow revenue across the portfolio.
- Professional representation: Represent Key Publishing positively in client meetings, industry communications and relevant events.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, commercially driven individual who is confident on the telephone and enjoys developing relationships with customers.
You will be organised, self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote environment. You will have a proactive approach to sales, a strong desire to win new business and the determination to achieve and exceed targets.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience in telephone sales, media sales, advertising sales, business development or a similar customer-facing commercial role.
- Confidence in making outbound sales calls and engaging prospective customers.
- Strong communication, listening and negotiation skills.
- The ability to identify customer needs and present compelling commercial solutions.
- A proactive approach to prospecting, lead generation and new business acquisition.
- Good relationship management skills, with the ability to develop existing accounts and build long-term customer partnerships.
- Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to manage a sales pipeline and prioritise activity.
- A target-driven mindset, with a focus on results, revenue generation and customer retention.
- Confidence using CRM systems, email and standard office software.
- The ability to work independently and remain motivated within a remote-working environment.
- Previous experience selling advertising across print and digital media.
- Knowledge of magazine publishing, specialist media or enthusiast markets.
- Experience preparing sales proposals, negotiating commercial agreements and managing advertising campaigns.
A relevant qualification in sales, business, marketing or media would be beneficial but is not essential. We welcome candidates whose practical experience, commercial ability and attitude demonstrate their suitability for the role.
