Chartered Structural Engineer | Derry/Londonderry | £50,000 to £60,000 If you are a chartered structural engineer in the North West and want a senior role with a proper work-life balance and one of the better benefits packages around, this is worth a conversation.
My client is a structural and civil engineering consultancy based in Derry/Londonderry, delivering projects from concept through to construction. Their work covers building structures in steel, concrete, timber and masonry, foundation design, civil works such as roads, retaining walls and drainage, and structural surveys of existing buildings.
They are hiring a Senior Structural Engineer to run their own projects, guide the junior team members on them, and help grow the consultancy’s client base.
Why this opportunity?
- A senior role in a small team, where you’ll run your own projects and be the main point of contact for clients
- A real chance to shape the business as it grows its client base
- A benefits package that beats most of what’s on offer in NI consultancy, especially on holidays and family friendly policies
- Hybrid working once you’re settled in, and free parking on site
- Local work in the North West, without the commute to Belfast
Your new role as Senior Structural Engineer You’ll take charge of your own projects from start to finish. That means the design, the calculations and the drawings, checking work done by others, and keeping the job on time and on budget. You’ll be the person clients, contractors and other consultants deal with day to day, and you’ll get out to site for inspections when needed.
You’ll report to the Principal Engineer and work with them to plan resources across the team. You’ll also mentor the graduates, technicians and junior engineers working on your jobs.
On the commercial side, you’ll keep track of project costs, fees and invoicing, put together monthly workload and fee forecasts, and spot risks early so they get dealt with. You’ll also play a part in winning new work and building the client base.
What you will need to succeed
- Chartered with the IStructE, ICE or Engineers Ireland
- A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or something similar
- At least five years’ experience since graduating
- Design experience across steel, concrete, timber and masonry, working to current codes
- Experience of structural assessments of existing buildings
- Confidence running projects and dealing directly with clients and contractors
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
What’s in it for you?
- Salary of £50,000 to £60,000
- 33 days holiday including bank holidays, rising to 38 with service
- Hybrid working once you’ve completed onboarding
- Generous contributory pension
- Enhanced family friendly benefits
- Death in service cover
- Health cash plan and employee assistance programme
- Cycle to work scheme, subsidised sports membership and retail discounts
- Free on-site parking
