What will you be doing?

Every learner has their own abilities, interests and ambitions. As an Education Support Worker, you’ll help create engaging, personalised learning experiences that encourage young people to develop their skills and achieve their goals.

Working alongside experienced education colleagues, you’ll support learners to participate in meaningful activities and celebrate their individual progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting learning and independence through creative, accessible activities tailored to individual needs.

  • Helping learners develop communication, confidence and practical life skills.

  • Supporting learners to work towards the outcomes in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Using different communication approaches and assistive technology to make learning accessible.

  • Encouraging learners to make choices, express their preferences and participate in activities.

  • Supporting accessible approaches to developing English and maths skills.

  • Providing personal care and promoting dignity, wellbeing and independence where required.

  • Working with colleagues to monitor progress, maintain accurate records and celebrate achievements.

Whether you’re helping someone develop a new communication skill, complete a learning activity or take another step towards independence, you’ll be making a meaningful difference.

Develop your skills and grow your career

At Sense, we believe that supporting other people to learn should also be an opportunity to keep learning yourself.

You’ll have opportunities to develop specialist education skills and gain valuable experience supporting young people with complex disabilities.

These include opportunities to:

  • Develop specialist SEND knowledge, including inclusive learning approaches and supporting learners with complex needs.

  • Build communication skills, including alternative communication approaches and supporting people with sensory impairments.

  • Learn from experienced education professionals, developing your confidence in supporting personalised learning.

  • Work towards a Level 3 teaching support qualification, building your professional knowledge and skills.

  • Access continuing professional development (CPD) and relevant learning opportunities.

  • Explore external professional development opportunities where appropriate.

Whether you’re looking to build on existing experience or develop a career in specialist education, you’ll be supported to keep learning.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who believes every learner deserves the opportunity to achieve their potential.

Essential requirements:

  • Level 2 qualifications in both English and Maths, or equivalent. You must be able to provide certificates for both subjects.

  • A positive, patient and inclusive approach to supporting young people with additional learning needs.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.

  • Creativity, adaptability and a willingness to explore different ways of supporting learning.

  • A commitment to promoting independence, dignity and choice.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and support individual learning goals.

  • A willingness to provide personal care where required.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience supporting people with complex disabilities or special educational needs.

  • British Sign Language (BSL) skills or experience using alternative communication methods.

  • Computer literacy, as learner progress and achievements are recorded digitally.

  • Experience working in education, care or disability support.

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. What matters is your commitment to inclusive education, your willingness to learn and your enthusiasm for helping young people succeed.

Why join Sense?

As part of our team, you’ll benefit from:

  • Monday to Friday daytime working, with no evenings, weekends or Bank Holidays.

  • Various contracted hours available, with working arrangements discussed at interview.

  • A 39-week academic working pattern, plus applicable annual leave entitlement.

  • Opportunities to develop specialist education and communication skills.

  • Access to online and face-to-face training.
