Head of Department – Health & Social Care (Maternity Cover)

Salford City College is recruiting a Head of Department to cover maternity leave for Health and Social Care at Eccles Sixth Form College, on a fixed term until January 2028. The post leads the curriculum for a department that runs the T-Level in Health alongside vocational health and childcare courses. The role also sets the direction for teaching, learning and assessment and builds relationships with employers and other stakeholders. A DBS check and further safeguarding checks apply, as the role has regular contact with young people.

What the job involves

• Lead and drive the Health and Social Care curriculum, including the T-Level in Health and vocational courses
• Set the vision and direction for the department
• Create an outstanding culture of teaching, learning and assessment
• Put in place strategies to improve attendance, achievement, higher grades and value-added progress
• Monitor and evaluate performance indicators across the department
• Implement quality improvement strategies in teaching and learning at departmental and cross-college level
• Meet the needs of learners and the wider skills agenda
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
• Fulfil the safeguarding responsibilities set out in the job description and person specification
