Want to help us build the world’s best childcare service?
Salary: £28,000, plus monthly bonuses for hitting and beating your target
Hours: 40 hours a week. Our core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
Location: We’re a remote-first team. You can work from home, or use our Goswell Road office in London as often as you like. We get together in person 4 to 6 times a year for team and company days, and we’d expect you to be there.
Watch Rachel and Kate talk more informally about the role
They talk about why we’re hiring, what this new role will do, what our team is like, and what we’re looking for.
About Koru Kids
At Koru Kids we have a triple mission: to support working parents during the hardest years of their life, to give children the best possible childhood to allow them to flourish as adults, and to create really great jobs for childcarers. We’re a marketplace, which means we have two customers: families, and the people who look after their children. The challenge is massive, but our team is really good.
Our business is growing fast and we’ve delivered over 3 million hours of childcare. We’re backed by strong investors and top-class VCs. Our culture is informal, hard-working and kind. The team is an A+ when it comes to talent, and our “no dickheads” rule means we’re also a humble and supportive bunch. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we’re truly proud of.
What’s it all about?
This is a sales role where you’ll make a real difference to families’ lives.
You’ll call families who are already searching for a nanny on Koru Kids, so they know who we are and want help. Your job is to find out what’s holding them back, then help them take the next step, whether that’s interviewing nannies, booking a trial or offering someone the job.
You’ll manage your own list of families, decide who to call first, and keep things moving without waiting to be told. You’ll have targets, and you’ll hit them by understanding what each family needs. Finding childcare is stressful, and the best people in this role never forget that. You’ll need to be able to strike the right balance between supporting families with what is obviously such an important and sometimes sensitive issue of finding the right childcare, but also being able to use your sales skills to help get them over the line as quickly as possible.
A typical day
9am: Company standup, then a quick team huddle to look at yesterday’s numbers and agree today’s priorities.
9.30am: First calling block. You start with families closest to hiring, like a parent who’s had a trial with a nanny and is deciding whether to offer them the job. Plenty won’t pick up, so you’ll leave voicemails and texts as you go.
11am: More calls, this time to families who’ve been interviewing nannies. You find out what they thought and help them book a trial.
12pm: A booked call with a mum going back to work after maternity leave. She doesn’t know where to start, so you talk it through and help her line up her first nanny interviews.
1pm: Lunch. Get away from your desk.
2pm: Back on the phone. Some families have gone quiet, so you find out why and what would help.
4pm: An urgent one comes in. A family’s nanny has handed in their notice, and the family need someone new by next week. You call straight away and help them start messaging nannies.
5pm: Last calls, then catch up on replies to texts and emails.
5.45pm: Check your numbers against your target and update your notes so tomorrow starts smoothly.
Once a week: Team training, such as sharing what’s working on calls.
What it’s really like: You’ll spend most of your day on the phone, making around 50 calls. Some families won’t answer and some will say no. If you like talking to people, and enjoy seeing your numbers move because of something you did, you’ll love it.
About you
You like talking to people, and you like seeing your numbers go up. You’re warm on the phone, curious about what people need, and happy to ask the awkward question when it matters. It’s great if you’ve worked in sales before, but you don’t need to have, and you don’t need childcare experience either. We’ll teach you the rest.
You’ll be great at this job if:
- You’d be happy spending most of your day on the phone making outbound calls to families
- People tend to trust you quickly
- You’ve persuaded people before, whether in retail, hospitality, tutoring, sales or anything else
- You ask good questions to find out what someone needs, then confidently recommend what’s right for them
- You like knowing your numbers, and when they dip, you work out what to change
- You ask for feedback and act on it
- You’re comfortable with technology and learning new tools.
- You’re excited to work in a constantly changing, evolving, and fast-paced start-up environment.
- You’re excited about using AI and the possibilities it can enable
- You spot better ways of doing things and say so
- You care about the team hitting its target, not just your own
- You follow up when others give up
You must be eligible to work in the UK.
What’s in it for you
- A team that’s working out what works together. You’ll try new approaches, share what lands, and learn from each other’s calls
- Regular coaching, with someone listening to your calls and helping you get better
- Your ideas get used. If you spot a better way of doing something, we’ll try it
- A close team that celebrates each other’s winsWork that matters. Every family you help is a parent who can go back to work knowing their children are happy
- Hybrid working: choose to work in the office or remotely
- £200 to set up your home office
- Cycle to work and electric car salary sacrifice schemes
- Deals & discounts scheme with over 30,000 brands
- 15 minute initial conversation with Kate (Sales Manager)
- A 60-minute online exercise you can do from anywhere, at a time that suits you
- A final video call interview
