Consultant Rheumatologist

Overview

In this role you will provide specialist rheumatology care within a large NHS network, supporting both general and specialised services. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care across multiple sites, contribute to teaching and training, and help develop outpatient and inpatient services. The role offers opportunities to specialise in MSK ultrasound and connective tissue clinics and to engage in education, audit, and management activities. You will be pivotal in sustaining robust clinical governance and service development.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing clinical care for rheumatology patients with a focus on high-quality outcomes
• Share emergency cover and collaborate with colleagues to maintain service continuity
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and supervise junior staff
• Engage in MDT and teaching activities, and contribute to clinical governance and audits
• Contribute to service development and management, including possible educational supervision of trainees
• Participate in or lead research, audit activities and quality improvement initiatives
• Support and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and cross-site collaboration
• Provide expert clinical opinion for both elective and emergency rheumatology cases

Key requirements

• MRCP or overseas equivalent
• Entry on Specialist Register (or expected within 6 months)
• Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care
• Experience in advising on efficient running of a specialist service
• Experience supervising junior medical staff
• Good teaching, audit, and research involvement
• UK professional registration (NHS requirement)
