Principal or Associate Civil Engineer

Overview

As a senior civil engineer within a growing consultancy, you guide programmes from concept to construction, delivering robust infrastructure solutions across the UK. You will own technical delivery, manage projects, and mentor engineers and technicians, shaping a diverse portfolio including regeneration, schools, commercial, and transport schemes. You collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to produce practical, compliant designs while engaging with regulators and authorities. Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure projects
• Mentor and develop engineers and technicians
• Oversee highway, external works, levels, earthworks and site infrastructure design
• Lead drainage strategies and SuDS, foul and surface water drainage design
• Manage projects from feasibility through construction
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, models, specs and reports
• Coordinate with clients, architects and multidisciplinary teams
• Liaise with LLFAs, water companies, highway authorities and other bodies
• Manage project programmes, resources, fees and deliverables
• Support fee proposals, project planning and commercial management
• Contribute to growth of the Civil Engineering team

Key requirements

• Chartered status, or significant progress towards Chartership
• Strong consultancy experience in civil engineering, drainage, and infrastructure design in the UK
• Experience leading engineers and technicians and managing technical delivery
• Strong knowledge of SuDS, flood risk, drainage design and UK standards
• Experience in highways, external works, levels, earthworks and site infrastructure design
• Proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow or similar software
• Ability to review technical work and guide project teams
• Strong communication, coordination and client-facing skills
• Good commercial awareness including programme, resource and fee management
