Location: London
Job Description:

A leading UK organisation at the intersection of financial services, technology and social purpose. Serving millions of customers nationwide, the business is undertaking an ambitious transformation agenda across data, AI, digital innovation and customer engagement.

This role plays a critical part in shaping and delivering that transition; defining how platform, data engineering, insight and analytics capabilities come together.

We are looking for a senior leader to own the design, build, and delivery of a modern data platform. This role will lead a cross-functional engineering and data team, working with our delivery partner, to migrate legacy data products and establish a scalable, secure, cloud-based platform.

This role has end-to-end accountability for creating key components of the Data strategy; from concept into delivery, including the build, platform architecture, technology choices, engineering standards and long-term evolution. Success in this role will mean delivering a production-ready platform, enabling self-service analytics, and establishing the operating model required to sustain and evolve it. This role will migrate priority analytics and reporting products into a modern, performant data platform, redesigning them where needed to improve value, scalability and usability, while decommissioning legacy infrastructure. The current squad brings together data engineering, modelling, analytics and platform expertise. You’ll also be responsible for the team build out, ensuring we have the right team, to deliver key components of our Data strategy.

A small taste of the scope and deliverables:

  • Platform delivery: Own the build and delivery of a modern, cloud-based data platform, including migration from legacy environments, data feeds and ways of working. Establish the standards, controls and accountability required to assure data and data-product quality and decommission legacy tooling to realise the full financial benefits.
  • Strategy & architecture: Perform an evidence-led review of the existing data estate, establishing what can be built, what needs to change and where a different approach may be required. Define the target architecture, platform roadmap, engineering standards and best practice, maintaining a holistic view of current and future needs.
  • Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing data engineering and platform team, with ways of working which promote efficiency and quality.
  • Governance: Ensure data quality, security, and compliance aligned to regulatory expectations
  • Partners: Shape and lead an integrated delivery model across the business, establishing clear accountability, high engineering standards and shared ways of working that improve quality and accelerate delivery.
