Job Description:

  • Interim Financial Accounting Manager

  • Bristol | Hybrid | 2 days required on site

  • 5-6-month contract | November start

We are partnering with a large, complex organisation with a strong public-service purpose to recruit an Interim Financial Accounting Manager, to support them through a busy year-end period.

Initially a 5-6 month assignment, the key focus will be financial reporting, external audit and the planning and delivery of interim and year-end statutory accounts. The organisation is also embedding a new finance system, so there may be scope for additional project work and potential extension beyond the initial assignment.

The role

  • Working within the Financial Reporting team, you’ll take a lead across:

  • Planning and coordinating the interim and year-end accounts process

  • Leading on external audit, including coordinating audit evidence and responding to queries

  • Providing strong technical accounting support across the organisation

  • Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, resolving aged items and strengthening financial controls

  • Supporting the production of statutory accounts and financial reporting

  • Managing and developing members of the financial accounting team

  • Supporting wider finance stakeholders with technical accounting queries and guidance

  • Helping the team manage additional workload while a new finance system is embedded

What we’re looking for

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent qualified

  • An experienced Financial Accounting Manager, Financial Controller or senior technical accountant

  • Strong across year-end, statutory accounts and external audit

  • Technically confident with financial reporting, controls and balance sheet governance

  • Comfortable joining an organisation at a busy point and getting up to speed quickly

  • Experienced within a large, complex or regulated organisation

  • Public sector / government / charity / NFP experience would be particularly useful

  • Previous finance transformation or systems implementation exposure would be advantageous

Why consider it? A really interesting assignment for someone who enjoys being hands‑on technically, but can also lead, coordinate and work across a wider finance function.

There’s a clear initial project supporting year‑end and an audit over the next 5-6 months, alongside the opportunity to get involved in a significant finance systems change programme.
