About the Role
Our client, a major national logistics provider, is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Remote Senior Transport Compliance & Safety Manager . This is a fully remote position, allowing you to lead critical safety and compliance initiatives from your home office across South Africa . You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive transport safety programs and ensuring strict adherence to all relevant national and international regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of transport law, safety management systems, risk assessment, and driver training methodologies. The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership qualities, a meticulous attention to detail, and a proven ability to foster a strong safety culture within a large fleet operation. You will be instrumental in safeguarding our operations, protecting our drivers, and maintaining our reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a robust national transport safety and compliance strategy.
- Ensure full compliance with all South African road traffic regulations, industry standards, and relevant legislation.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments across the fleet operations to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
- Oversee the development and delivery of driver training programs focused on safety, compliance, and best practices.
- Manage and investigate all transport-related incidents, accidents, and near misses, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and insurance providers on safety and compliance matters.
- Analyze safety performance data, identify trends, and develop strategies for continuous improvement in safety metrics.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization, engaging with drivers and operational staff to embed safety principles.
- Stay current with changes in legislation and industry best practices related to transport safety and compliance.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in transport safety, compliance management, or a related field, with a significant focus on road transport.
- In-depth knowledge of South African transport laws, safety regulations (e.g., National Road Traffic Act), and international standards.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing successful safety management systems (e.g., ISO 39001).
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to manage remotely.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and data analysis tools.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Safety Management, Logistics, Law, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in safety management (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH) is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a remote leadership capacity is a strong advantage.
