Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is seeking independent governors for its Board of Governors and a co-opted member for its People and Culture Committee. Both roles offer the opportunity to bring independent expertise, strategic insight and constructive challenge to the governance of a bold and inclusive university.

Independent Governors

Independent governors share responsibility for the universitys strategic direction, performance, stewardship, accountability and regulatory compliance. We particularly welcome applicants with substantial leadership or professional experience in audit, legal matters, artificial intelligence or international contexts, who bring sound judgement, strategic perspective and constructive challenge to collective decisions.

Co-opted Member of the People and Culture Committee

The People and Culture Committee oversees workforce development, organisational culture, leadership, wellbeing, inclusion, transformation and the student experience. We seek an experienced people, culture or transformation leader with current or recent expertise in human resources, employment, workforce matters or people-led digital change.

What we are looking for:

Applicants should demonstrate integrity, independence of thought, sound judgement and commitment to the Nolan Principles of Public Life. They must be able to understand complex information, ask well-judged questions, offer constructive challenge and work collaboratively. Non-executive or board-level experience is welcomed; experience of higher education or another complex, regulated organisation is desirable.
