Insurance Manager – All Ireland
Newtownards, County Down | Salary up to £55,000 | Permanent | Full-time
Take ownership of an All-Ireland insurance function, shape its future direction and make a genuine impact within a substantial and established organisation.
I am working with a well-established organisation operating across multiple business divisions throughout Ireland, who are looking to appoint an experienced Insurance Manager to lead and develop their insurance and risk management activities.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, this is a key appointment offering significant responsibility, autonomy and the opportunity to influence how insurance is managed across the organisation’s All-Ireland operations.
What makes this opportunity particularly attractive is the scope to make the role your own. Rather than simply maintaining existing arrangements, you will have the opportunity to shape the insurance function, identify areas for improvement, strengthen processes and implement strategies that support the organisation’s wider risk management objectives.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, operating companies, insurers and brokers, you will play an important role in protecting the business, managing risk and supporting its continued success.
This would suit an experienced insurance professional looking to move into a senior in-house position where they can take ownership, influence at a senior level and make a tangible contribution to the wider business.
The Role
As Insurance Manager, you will lead and coordinate all aspects of insurance activity across the organisation’s operating businesses throughout Ireland, ensuring insurance programmes remain appropriate, claims are managed effectively and statutory and contractual obligations are met.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing, implementing and maintaining the organisation’s All-Ireland insurance and risk management strategy across multiple operating companies.
Taking ownership of the insurance function, identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and enhance existing arrangements.
Managing insurance claims from initial notification through to settlement, ensuring timely resolution and maximising recoveries where appropriate.
Overseeing the motor fleet statutory insurance database and ensuring records remain accurate and up to date.
Managing and coordinating the annual insurance renewal process across the various operating businesses, including involvement in tender processes and negotiations.
Reviewing contractual insurance requirements and advising internal stakeholders on appropriate levels of cover and compliance with customer and supplier agreements.
Ensuring compliance with relevant statutory insurance requirements and policy obligations.
Maintaining accurate insurance records, documentation and reporting processes.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with insurance brokers, insurers, legal advisers and other external partners.
Preparing management reports and presentations covering insurance programmes, claims performance, emerging trends and areas of risk exposure.
Monitoring insurance expenditure, claims costs and premiums, identifying opportunities to improve cost efficiency and overall risk management.
You will work closely with stakeholders throughout the organisation, providing practical insurance guidance and ensuring a consistent and effective approach to insurance and claims management across the island.
What They’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will be an experienced insurance professional with a strong background in commercial insurance, claims management or risk management, ideally with experience operating within a complex business environment.
You will ideally have:
A minimum of 5 years’ experience within insurance, risk management or a related discipline.
A recognised professional insurance qualification such as ACII, Dip CII, MDI or CIP, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience managing annual insurance renewals, including tender processes and negotiations.
A strong track record of managing insurance claims from notification through to settlement.
A good understanding of commercial insurance policies, including policy wording, terms, conditions and exclusions.
Experience managing insurance budgets, premiums, claims costs and expenditure analysis.
Confidence dealing and negotiating with insurers, brokers, solicitors and other external stakeholders.
Strong knowledge of commercial insurance programmes and claims management processes.
You will also demonstrate:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The confidence to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
A proactive, commercially minded approach and the ability to work independently.
The initiative and ambition to take ownership of a function and drive its ongoing development.
What’s On Offer?
This is an opportunity to join a substantial and established organisation in a position that offers genuine ownership, visibility and influence.
The successful candidate will benefit from:
Competitive salary: Up to £55,000, depending on experience.
All-Ireland responsibility: Overseeing insurance activities across a diverse portfolio of operating businesses throughout Ireland.
