Job Description:

Role: Group Finance Business Partner | Project-Based Engineering Business

Location: Just outside Preston (flexible/hybrid working)

Medlock Partners are exclusively partnering with a rapidly growing engineering business to recruit a Group Finance Business Partner who wants to do more than produce numbers — someone who enjoys getting close to projects, working with operational teams and helping drive commercial performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business with ambitious growth plans, a fantastic working culture and a genuinely collaborative approach. You’ll be part of a team where your input is valued, you can build strong relationships across the wider business, and you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact from the outset.

The role

Reporting to the Head Of Commercial Finance and working closely with finance and operational stakeholders, you’ll provide financial insight and commercial support across a portfolio of projects and contracts.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing project and contract financial performance, profitability and margins.
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • Analysing performance against budgets, forecasts and tender assumptions.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities and potential margin improvements.
  • Working alongside project managers, operational teams and commercial colleagues to improve financial visibility and decision-making.
  • Supporting contract reviews, tender evaluations and pricing analysis.
  • Challenging assumptions constructively and helping drive continuous improvement across the business.

Key Requirements:

We’re keen to speak with candidates who combine strong financial and analytical skills with commercial awareness and an understanding of project-based environments.

  • Ideally experience working with NEC contracts and an understanding of the commercial and financial considerations involved.
  • Experience within construction, nuclear, engineering, industrial manufacturing, infrastructure or another project-led sector.
  • A background in project finance, contract accounting, management accounting, commercial finance or finance business partnering.
  • Experience with project forecasting, cost control, margin analysis and financial performance reporting.
  • The confidence to work with non-finance stakeholders, ask the right questions and turn financial information into meaningful insight.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and the desire to contribute to a growing business.

Why apply for the role?

A rapidly expanding business with exciting plans for the future.

A fantastic culture built around collaboration, approachability and teamwork.

Flexible working arrangements that support a healthy work-life balance.

The opportunity to work closely with operational and commercial teams and influence real business decisions.

A varied role offering exposure to projects, contracts and wider business performance.

The chance to develop your career in an environment where people are valued and encouraged to make a difference.

There is also a minor expectation for the successful candidate to travel to their other UK site (south) however, this is not excessive or regular.
