  • Proven experience in financial crime prevention within the financial services sector.
  • Experience assessing financial crime risks, identifying emerging issues and supporting effective risk management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business functions and different lines of defence.
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory and technical concepts clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience providing financial crime advice, constructive challenge and oversight to business teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and recommend practical solutions.
  • A proactive, flexible and pragmatic approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond to changing regulatory requirements.
  • A customer-focused mindset, with a commitment to maintaining effective financial crime controls and achieving positive customer outcomes.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Provide specialist EU AML technical advice, guidance and support to the Overseas Life Assurance Business (OLAB).
  • Work collaboratively with first- and second-line Financial Crime teams across the UK and Ireland, as well as relevant third-party administrators.
  • Support the delivery of EU AML regulatory change projects, process improvements and financial crime risk management initiatives.
  • Review and update AML policies, procedures and controls to reflect regulatory developments and industry best practice.
  • Manage technical financial crime queries raised by the business, providing clear and practical recommendations.
  • Identify, assess and escalation material financial crime risks, emerging threats and control weaknesses.
  • Support the management and resolution of findings arising from Internal Audit, Compliance Monitoring and Group Investigations.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of financial crime training and awareness activities.
  • Support regulatory audits and visits relating to financial crime, ensuring appropriate preparation and follow-up.
  • Prepare and contribute to financial crime management information (MI) and reports for senior management and board-level stakeholders.
  • Share lessons learned and good practice across the business to promote a strong financial crime prevention culture.

Desirable experience

  • Experience working within the life assurance, insurance, wealth management or retirement sectors.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment applicable to EU AML requirements within a financial services organisation.
  • Experience working with outsourced service providers or third-party administrators.
  • Experience supporting regulatory change programmes, AML policy reviews and financial crime control enhancements.
  • Exposure to regulatory audits, compliance monitoring reviews and internal audit findings.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, particularly the UK and Ireland.
  • A relevant degree or professional qualification, such as an International Compliance Association (ICA) qualification in financial crime prevention, or equivalent practical experience.
