Senior PMO Risk ManagerLocation: Suffolk or London – Hybrid Working AvailableClient: Sizewell C (SZC)Closing Date: 4 November 2026
The Opportunity
Morson is proud to be partnered with Sizewell C (SZC) to support the recruitment of a Senior PMO Risk Manager to join one of the UKs most significant infrastructure programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a nationally important nuclear new-build project, helping to shape the UKs future energy landscape and support its ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Building on the success of Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C is a major nuclear power station development in Suffolk. With planning approval, government financing support and construction underway, the project is progressing towards its next phase of development and private investment. Once operational, Sizewell C is expected to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity for approximately six million homes over 60 years.
For an experienced risk professional with a background in major projects, this role offers the chance to make a genuine impact on a complex, high-profile programme while working alongside senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
The Role
As Senior PMO Risk Manager, you will operate within the Project Management Office (PMO) and Delivery Programmes, supporting the Head of Delivery Risk in the functional leadership, implementation and continuous improvement of risk management across Sizewell C.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that risk management processes, systems and governance arrangements are consistently applied, providing the project with the insight and assurance needed to make informed decisions and drive successful delivery.
The successful candidate will bring substantial experience of risk management within large-scale projects or programmes, alongside a strong understanding of how risk interacts with project controls, cost, schedule, construction and wider business functions.
Working closely with senior leadership, functional leads and programme teams, you will oversee a range of risk management activities, challenge and assure outputs, identify opportunities for improvement and help drive a forward-looking, digitally enabled approach to project controls.
This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will also deputise for the Head of Delivery Risk when required, providing leadership and continuity across key project activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk leadership and governance: Support and deputise for the Head of Delivery Risk, helping to lead the PMO risk function and provide risk management support across multiple areas of the SZC project.
- Process development and continuous improvement: Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of integrated project controls risk processes, including governance, assurance arrangements, tools, work instructions and the deployment of risk requirements across the project.
- Senior stakeholder engagement: Represent the risk function at key project meetings, including Executive Risk Review meetings and weekly meetings with Functional Leads and Programme Controls Managers.
- Risk management delivery: Lead risk management activities for a number of smaller cross-project functions, ensuring effective application of processes and appropriate oversight of risk exposure.
- Quantitative risk analysis: Support the planning, coordination and delivery of key risk activities, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates, Executive Risk Review (ERR) preparation and integrated Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA).
- Performance reporting and insight: Contribute to monthly risk dashboards, forecast‑to‑complete reporting, variance analysis and the identification of delivery trends, emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Risk mitigation: Work with project and programme teams to understand risk drivers, develop effective mitigation strategies and support informed decision‑making across cost, schedule and delivery.
- Team leadership: Provide direction, delegate effectively and support the development of colleagues, including leading a small team of approximately five people where required.
- Industry engagement: Help position Sizewell C as a leader in construction and infrastructure risk management through knowledge sharing, industry networking and external presentations.
- Digital transformation: Champion innovation and digital ways of working, supporting the projects ambition to make project controls Digital by Default.
Essential Skills and Experience
We are looking for an established risk management professional who can combine technical expertise with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership and team management: Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams, delegate responsibilities effectively and collaborate with colleagues across a complex project environment.
- Stakeholder engagement: Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels, from delivery teams and supply chain partners to senior leadership, corporate functions and external organisations.
- Communication and insight: The ability to interpret complex risk and project controls information, identify meaningful insights and communicate findings clearly to a wide range of audiences.
- Workshop facilitation: Strong facilitation skills, with experience leading complex risk workshops and engaging multidisciplinary teams to identify, assess and manage project risks.
- Technical risk expertise: Demonstrable experience delivering complex Quantitative Risk Analyses across cost, schedule and integrated project risk, alongside a sound understanding of enterprise risk management.
- Project controls integration: The ability to connect risk management with wider project delivery and business processes, including cost control, planning, estimating, finance and programme management.
- Risk mitigation expertise: A strong understanding of project and construction delivery processes, how they influence risk exposure, and the practical mitigation strategies required to manage them.
- Major project experience: Significant experience within major infrastructure, capital‑intensive programmes or complex corporate environments, ideally gained across client, contractor, consultancy or government organisations.
- Assurance and governance: The ability to challenge and assure risk outputs, maintain robust governance and drive continuous improvement across the risk function.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience in project management and broader project controls disciplines.
- Active membership of a recognised professional body, such as the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), Association for Project Management (APM) or Project Management Institute (PMI), ideally supported by relevant professional certifications.
- Experience across multiple project controls disciplines, including cost control, estimating, planning and scheduling, change management and risk management.
- Experience working with Independent Technical Assessors, Project Representatives or similar embedded assurance teams.
- A strong understanding of assurance frameworks and the ability to build confidence among assurance stakeholders while driving improvements in risk management processes.
- Relevant risk management, technical management or capital‑intensive sector qualifications.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a landmark UK infrastructure programme at a critical stage of its development, where effective risk management will be central to delivery success.
You will have the scope to influence risk strategy, work closely with senior decision‑makers and help shape best practice across a complex, multidisciplinary project environment.
