Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting & Control

Coolmotion UK | Leicester, LE4 7AN

£58,000–£65,000 per annum, depending on experience

Full-time, permanent | On-site | Monday to Friday

Own the numbers. Improve the business.

Coolmotion UK is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant who combines strong financial control with commercial judgement.

Based at our Leicester head office, you will take ownership of accurate accounting, timely reporting and clear financial information across our vehicle rental operations, supporting Green Motion UK where required.

We want someone who investigates discrepancies, resolves problems and helps management understand what the numbers mean. You will have the opportunity to strengthen processes, improve systems and make a visible contribution to business performance.

This is a hands‑on role in a busy environment, suited to someone who enjoys responsibility, works confidently with operational colleagues and follows issues through to resolution.

What you will own

Month-end and financial reporting

  • Deliver accurate monthly management accounts to agreed deadlines, including profit and loss, balance sheet and supporting commentary.
  • Manage general ledger integrity, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany balances, investigating and resolving differences promptly.
  • Explain financial performance, variances and emerging risks clearly to management.

Cash flow and commercial insight

  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, budgets and financial analysis to support decisions.
  • Work with accounts and operational colleagues to improve billing accuracy, resolve discrepancies and support collections.
  • Identify cost trends, margin pressures and opportunities to improve financial performance.
  • Turn financial information into practical recommendations.

Vehicle rental accounting

  • Maintain accurate accounting for fleet assets, depreciation, disposals and related finance arrangements.
  • Ensure rental income, customer deposits, maintenance costs and damage recoveries are recorded and reconciled correctly.
  • Work with operations to keep rental activity, fleet records and accounting information aligned.

Compliance and financial control

  • Prepare VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.
  • Coordinate payroll accounting and reporting with the relevant colleagues or providers.
  • Prepare year‑end schedules and support statutory accounts, external accountants and audit requirements.
  • Apply relevant UK accounting standards and maintain clear, traceable supporting records.
  • Strengthen controls over payments, journals, reconciliations and financial approvals.

Systems, processes and colleagues

  • Identify recurring problems and implement practical improvements.
  • Improve the use of accounting systems, spreadsheets and reporting tools.
  • Support system changes and automation that reduce manual work and improve accuracy.
  • Guide junior finance colleagues where required and work constructively with non‑finance teams.

What you will bring

Essential

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or substantial equivalent experience demonstrating strong technical accounting competence.
  • Proven experience delivering month‑end accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • A sound working knowledge of UK accounting standards and VAT.
  • Experience preparing cash flow forecasts, budgets and meaningful financial analysis.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems and large datasets.
  • The ability to investigate discrepancies independently and resolve their underlying causes.
  • Clear communication and the confidence to challenge constructively.
  • Strong organisation, sound judgement and consistent delivery against deadlines.
  • The ability to work on‑site at our Leicester head office and commute reliably.

Desirable

  • Experience in vehicle rental, leasing, automotive or another asset‑intensive business.
  • Experience across multiple companies, including intercompany accounting.
  • Knowledge of fleet assets, vehicle finance and rental revenue accounting.
  • Experience using Sage Intacct, Xero or comparable accounting systems.
  • Experience improving processes, implementing systems or supporting junior colleagues.

We welcome applicants from industry or accountancy practice who can demonstrate the practical skills and ownership this role requires.

What success looks like

Management accounts are delivered on time, balance sheets are supported by reliable reconciliations, and cash flow forecasts give management a clear view ahead.

Discrepancies are resolved, financial controls are followed and operational colleagues receive useful answers. Your improvements make the finance function more accurate, efficient and dependable.

What we offer

  • £58,000–£65,000 annual salary, depending on relevant experience.
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Company pension.
  • Company sick pay.
  • Employee discounts and company events.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • Broad exposure across vehicle rental and multi‑company accounting.
  • The opportunity to take ownership, improve processes and develop your career as the business grows.

We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who meet the role requirements.
