Lead AI Engineer – Enterprise AI Products

Overview

In this Lead AI Engineer role, you will combine hands-on engineering with strategic architecture to deliver AI platforms for Citi. You’ll partner with senior business and technology stakeholders to translate real-world problems into scalable AI solutions, including Generative AI and Agentic AI. You’ll shape platform strategy and roadmaps while driving modern AI engineering practices in a fast-moving environment. This is a high-impact, senior role with ownership and cross-functional influence in a mission-driven AI team.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical components aligned with business and product objectives
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to translate problems into technical solutions
• Shape product roadmaps, technical strategy and priorities with the team
• Design, develop and deploy scalable, production-grade solutions
• Build AI solutions including Generative AI and Agentic AI using Google ADK
• Design, develop and test AI Agents; work with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and MCP servers
• Write high-quality code in Python and/or Java across modern AI and platform tech
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and team development
• Advance engineering quality via code reviews, design reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices
• Ensure risk, security, and compliance requirements are met while integrating with broader platforms

Key requirements

• Proven experience as Senior Developer, Technical Lead, Lead Engineer or equivalent
• Strong object-oriented programming, software architecture and design skills
• Hands-on Python and/or Java experience; familiarity with both is highly desirable
• Experience with Generative AI and AI Agents; ideally Google ADK
• Practical knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI/data/service integration
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, databases, networking, and CLI tooling; Postgres/Oracle preferred
• Experience with CI/CD and modern DevOps tooling (e.g., Jenkins, uDeploy, Tekton, Harness)
• Ability to shape technical strategy and influence senior stakeholders
• Comfort discussing business needs with non-technical stakeholders
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or line management
• Desirable: Neo4j or graph databases, UX/front-end development, broader AI platforms
