Legal Counsel (Compliance)

Overview

In this in-house role you will lead the development and ongoing management of the compliance function within a large UK service-focused business. You will report to the General Counsel and shape policies, training, and procedures while overseeing data protection, KYC, whistleblowing, and commercial contracts. You will manage two data protection specialists and collaborate with a small legal team to drive regulatory compliance across the organisation. This is a hands-on, practitioner-focused opportunity to build a function from the ground up in London.

Responsibilities

• Lead the establishment and ongoing operation of the compliance function from a blank canvas
• Oversee whistleblowing processes, policies and procedures
• Develop and maintain the legal training programme
• Manage data protection activities and supervise two data protection specialists
• Oversee KYC compliance and handling of commercial contracts
• Collaborate with the Head of Legal and other in-house lawyers on regulatory matters
• Advise on policy updates and governance within a service environment

Key requirements

• Qualified lawyer with 3–5 PQE
• Compliance experience is beneficial but role is legal-focused
• Experience in data protection, KYC and contracts is desirable
• London-based, permanent role with 4 days in the office
• Experience in a service or supplier environment is helpful
