HSEQ Manager

Health, Safety, Environment, Quality & Training

Take ownership. Influence decisions. Make a visible difference.

Are you an experienced HSEQ professional looking for a role where you can shape standards, develop people and turn improvement plans into practical action?

Recra Consulting is recruiting for an HSEQ Manager to take strategic and operational ownership of health, safety, environmental, quality and training activities within an operational business.

Working closely with senior management, you’ll be the principal source of HSEQ expertise, helping the business meet its obligations while building a workforce that understands and takes pride in safe, effective working practices.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Broad ownership: Lead the HSEQ function, including management systems, compliance, training and workforce competence.
  • Senior-level influence: Advise managers and directors, helping shape decisions and improvement priorities.
  • Practical impact: Combine strategic planning with a visible presence across operational activities.
  • People development: Coach direct reports and help operational managers strengthen their HSEQ capabilities.
  • Supported qualification development: Company support to achieve the relevant waste management competency qualification if you do not already hold it.

Your role

You’ll lead the development and delivery of effective HSEQ practices across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear, practical guidance on legislation, environmental permits, industry standards and internal policies.
  • Maintaining and improving ISO management systems, documentation, certifications and accreditations.
  • Leading internal audits, site inspections and preparation for external audits and regulatory visits.
  • Identifying operational risks and ensuring corrective and preventative actions are completed.
  • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, turning findings into meaningful improvements.
  • Reporting on HSEQ performance and presenting priorities and recommendations to senior management.
  • Leading the training strategy, maintaining competence frameworks and ensuring training matrices remain accurate.
  • Coordinating and delivering internal training, alongside arranging external development where required.
  • Managing relationships with regulators, enforcement agencies, auditors and other external stakeholders.
  • Supporting tender submissions and supplier compliance assessments.
  • Leading and developing direct reports while encouraging shared ownership of HSEQ across the business.

About you

You’ll be a credible, approachable leader who can engage people at every level, challenge unsafe practices confidently and balance compliance requirements with operational realities.

You’ll bring:

  • An NVQ Level 4 or above in Occupational Health & Safety Practice, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Experience managing health, safety and environmental activities within manufacturing, industrial, engineering, logistics or FMCG environments.
  • Experience maintaining ISO-certified systems and formal management processes.
  • A practical understanding of incident investigation, risk management and corrective action.
  • Experience managing or mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience overseeing training, workforce development or competence frameworks.
  • Strong communication, organisation and reporting skills.

A NEBOSH Diploma, relevant professional membership, an Internal or Lead Auditor qualification, and experience leading regulatory inspections would be advantageous.

A WAMITAB Certificate of Technical Competence or equivalent waste management qualification would also be beneficial. If not already held, you must be willing to achieve it within an agreed timeframe, with company support.
