Job Description:

Riverside Medical Practice, Musselburgh Primary Care Centre, Inveresk Road, Musselburgh EH21 7BP

I started working at Riverside after working in Manchester and then New Zealand. It’s been really easy to settle in due to the friendly and caring nature of the team. The structure of the day is much better than anywhere else I’ve worked, giving me space to enjoy working as a GP in a way that I was starting to think wasn’t possible after working in two different countries! I’d thoroughly recommend Riverside as a great place to work. Dr Tom Lyon (GP)

Your day

GP workload at Riverside is carefully managed, with 20 x 15-minute face-to-face appointments per day (inclusive of two review slots booked by you), plus 2 x 7.5 minute telephone review slots booked by you.

Duty doctor days are shared equally between GPs, in line with the number of sessions you work. We have processes in place to ensure a safe daily workload for the duty GP.

Home visit days are also shared equally and are supported by our specialist paramedic, who conducts a large proportion of the visits.

About the Practice

We’re a long-established GP Practice in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh. Our team are expert, patient-centred, inclusive, collaborative and realistic. Our vision is to provide trusted care, empower individuals to live healthier lives, have a committed and supported team, and to work in a place (building) that works.

We’re a busy surgery serving c.20,000 patients, in an area with significant health inequality – so we’re looking for GPs who are passionate about working in this type of environment and who really want to make a difference. It’s clinically interesting work, with many different types of pathology.

We’re located close to both Edinburgh City Centre and East Lothian’s fabulous beaches. The Practice is located in a modern, purpose-built health centre with shared kitchen, sun terrace and onsite parking.

We have sound support in place for emergencies, with a specialist paramedic and other members of our large team always available and well-stocked, accessible emergency kits. You won’t find yourself managing an emergency on your own here.

Your development

We make time for your professional development. As an accredited training Practice we have multiple experienced GP trainers in the team and both mentoring and regular clinical catch-ups with colleagues are part of our weekly life at Riverside. CPD time is built into your working week and if you have special areas of interest you want to develop, there are opportunities to take on relevant quality improvement projects with support from GP Partners.

The team you’ll be part of

We have a stable team of around 50 people at the Practice, with a number of WTE GPs which compares favourably to national averages.

We also have inhouse General Practice nurses (chronic disease management), treatment room nursing and phlebotomy, working alongside a wider multi-disciplinary team including pharmacy, substance use, linkworkers, CAMHS, district nurses, health visitors etc. Our care home resident patients are cared for by a dedicated local health board team, with support from our Care Home Lead GP.

There are four supportive GP partners, and an efficient Reception and administrative team. Our team say we’re a genuinely welcoming and well-organised Practice, with mature processes in place.

MDT

The local health board offers various self-referral services including nurse-led same-day assessment for new symptoms; mental health triage; physio; and community nursing – making sure your time is spent with the patients who most need your care.

Where we are and how we welcome you

Sweet treats are always on hand and welcome boxes are provided to all new team members, with regular staff events and fun things planned. We make sure all new GPs have a settling in period, to get used to Practice processes, IT etc.
