Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced SEND English Tutor to join a welcoming and supportive specialist school in Silverstone, Northamptonshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced English Tutor, SEND Teacher, English Teacher, Functional Skills Tutor, HLTA or experienced Teaching Assistant with strong English subject knowledge who enjoys working with young people who require a more personalised approach to education.
Set within a peaceful rural environment, the school provides small-group and individualised learning, with a strong focus on supporting pupils’ academic progress, confidence and independence.
The role is initially offered as maternity cover, with the potential for a temp-to-perm opportunity following the maternity period, subject to suitability and the school’s requirements.
The Role – SEND English Tutor
As a SEND English Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging English sessions to pupils across a range of abilities and needs.
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide structured, personalised learning and help pupils make progress towards their individual targets.
The role may include teaching English, literacy, reading, writing and Functional Skills, depending on the needs and abilities of the pupils.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons and intervention sessions
- Teach individuals and small groups of pupils
- Support development in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and communication
- Deliver appropriate English and Functional Skills learning where required
- Adapt lessons and resources to meet individual SEND needs
- Support pupils working towards individual learning targets and EHCP outcomes
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Encourage confidence, independence and engagement with learning
- Support positive behaviour and maintain a calm learning environment
- Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and the wider school team
- Contribute to planning and the wider educational life of the school
About You
The school is looking for a confident and engaging English Tutor who can adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of individual learners.
You may currently be working as an:
- Functional Skills Tutor
- SEND Teacher
- HLTA
- Experienced Teaching Assistant
- Learning Support Assistant
You will ideally have:
- Strong English subject knowledge
- Experience teaching or tutoring children or young people
- Experience delivering English to individuals or small groups
- A good understanding of different learning needs
- Previous SEND, SEN, SEMH or specialist education experience is highly desirable
- The ability to adapt lessons for different abilities and learning needs
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- A genuine interest in supporting pupils’ academic and personal development
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
