Associate Materials Engineer (Composites)

Overview

In this role you will join a manufacturing Centre of Excellence to provide composite manufacturing engineering support for operational and development programs, delivering robust processes that enable zero defect projects. You’ll work on materials and processes, applying problem-solving skills to improve quality, efficiency and manufacturing capability. The position offers opportunities to contribute to aerospace manufacturing innovation and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on safety and customer-focused outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Monitor composite production via test and audit to ensure robust process selection, implementation and control
• Support deployment of a robust, repeatable composite manufacturing process meeting business and customer requirements
• Authorised Stamp Holder (MLSR) and implement materials and process methods from concept to production
• Utilise the ZDM tools to demonstrate process capability and defect reduction
• Provide technical support for manufacturing development and integration for production
• Resolve vendor quality issues and improve product quality and reduce non-conforming parts
• Maintain safety-first mindset and comply with HSE policies
• Develop technical solutions to complex problems within the organization, customers and suppliers
• Apply root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce non-conformances
• Foster positive relationships with internal/external customers and teammates
• Drive continuous improvement of production processes through Lean initiatives

Key requirements

• Material Science degree (or equivalent)
• Background in composite materials engineering and knowledge of processing methods in composites manufacturing
• Experience of continuous improvement and Lean management
• Proactive about new developments of expertise
• Good interpersonal and customer/supplier interfacing skills
• Ability to work under own initiative and manage internal/external customer requirements
• Able to deliver on time, cost and quality
• PC literate – MS Office programs
• Self-motivated, resourceful, capable in a complex environment
