Job Description:

Financial Controller | AI Manufacturing Scale-Up | London / Hybrid

The Client

Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with a Series A advanced manufacturing business that is combining software, AI and a rapidly growing manufacturing network to change how physical products are made. Since raising a significant Series A, it has grown quickly across several countries, already generates substantial revenue and has ambitious plans for international growth.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be the sole owner of accounting and reporting for a fast-growing international group. You will own the management accounts, statutory reporting and audit, and build the inventory and manufacturing accounting framework the business needs to scale.

The finance team is deliberately lean: the Finance Director, the Financial Controller and a Finance Business Partner who will own process and automation. Day-to-day bookkeeping is outsourced, so your first priority is getting the external accountants into good order, setting the policies and controls they work to and reviewing what they produce, before bringing more of the function in-house.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close and deliver accurate, timely management accounts across the group.
  • Build the inventory and manufacturing accounting framework across raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, including valuation, production costing and cost allocation.
  • Account for fixed assets, capital expenditure on machinery, depreciation and debt financing as the business grows.
  • Set the accounting policies and financial controls the outsourced accountants work to review their output.
  • Own statutory accounts and group consolidation, and lead the transition to a Big Four audit.
  • Build intercompany accounting and reconciliations across the group, and manage local accountants and tax advisers in each country.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and operations so the numbers reflect how parts actually move through production.
  • Bring transactional finance in-house in stages once the foundations are in place.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA preferred, ACCA or equivalent) with strong audit training, ideally from a Big Four firm.
  • Post-qualification industry experience in an inventory-heavy business, such as manufacturing, engineering, automotive or hardware, with hands-on ownership of stock accounting.
  • Strong technical command of IFRS and UK accounting standards, and a clear view of what best practice looks like.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, running month-end close and working with external auditors.

A hands-on approach: comfortable doing the detail yourself in a small team.

  • A second European language, which helps when working with local accountants and advisers.
  • Supporting a Big Four audit from within industry.
