The Major Projects Team is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and collaborative Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong leadership and mentoring capabilities to join our busy and expanding department. This key role involves managing the Mechanical Engineering Section within the wider Major Projects Team and providing vital support to the Major Projects Team Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a varied portfolio of Mechanical Design projects, spanning new builds, extensions, refurbishments, and maintenance schemes. The team is actively delivering a range of exciting projects, including new schools, childcare facilities, and other strategic projects across the authority. With a robust pipeline of future work, the department remains committed to delivering high quality, sustainable assets for the community.

We are looking for a team oriented professional who can also work confidently and independently when required. You will bring strong design, analytical, technical, and presentation skills, and be capable of contributing effectively to multidisciplinary design teams on large scale, multi million pound projects. A flexible, solution focused approach is essential. Solid knowledge of CDM Regulations, along with the ability to contribute to Health & Safety considerations within design solutions, is important. Experience in carbon reduction methodologies, particularly in relation to achieving Net Zero Carbon standards for new assets, is vital. An understanding of the requirements of JCT traditional building contracts is also expected.

We value ambition, drive, and pride in the quality of your work. This role offers a predominantly hybrid/remote working arrangement, although you will be required to attend the office when needed and undertake site or client visits where required.

We welcome applications from experienced Mechanical Engineers who possess the skills, experience, and commitment to help deliver high quality public sector design that improves outcomes for people of all ages.

Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.

A valid driving licence is requirement for this post.

The council’s Hybrid Working Policy applies to this post. This provides a framework for establishing how you will undertake working hours between your home and the office.
