Overview
As a Detention Custody Officer at Dungavel IRC, you help manage residents’ needs within a high-risk, highly regulated setting. You will work as part of a team to balance safety, security, welfare, and regime requirements while supporting residents’ understanding of next steps. The role emphasizes respectful, caring engagement and developing positive staff–resident relationships. You will be trained and supported to build a reliable Care & Custody career within a critical, 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end management of residents’ needs until Home Office decision
- Balance safety, security, welfare, and regime pressures
- Engage with stakeholders including Home Office and Medical Service partners
- Foster a safe, healthy establishment and positive staff-resident relationships
- Promote positive behaviour and support residents in engaging activities
- Deliver high-quality care and custody with integrity and respect
- Contribute to understanding what happens next for residents
- Adapt to a 4-on/4-off shift pattern including days, nights and weekends
Key requirements
- UK citizenship or Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain or EEA citizen
- Valid in-date passport with no stay restrictions in the UK
- Biometric card with passport
- Residency in the UK for past 5 years with minimal overseas trips
- Enhanced DBS check and vetting to CT level if offered
- Full UK manual driving licence without recent bans
- Not currently bankrupt
- No explicit role-specific qualifications required (training provided)
- Experience dealing sensitively with vulnerable or volatile individuals would be an advantage
