Join an award-winning multidisciplinary engineering practice that prides itself on its close collaboration with architects to achieve intelligent, innovative projects.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Associate Civil Engineer to join our London studio. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery of inventive, high-quality civil design, working across a wide range of sectors.

As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will have the experience and confidence to lead technical and commercial delivery of projects, from early concept through to construction. Reporting to a Director, you will be responsible for leading design development and reviewing technical work, coordinating with architects and other consultants, managing, mentoring and developing junior engineers, and supporting the successful delivery of projects to the highest technical, professional, and sustainability standards. You will also contribute to client relationships and business development, helping to identify opportunities and support the continued growth of the practice.

You will bring at least 8 years’ post-graduate experience in a civil engineering design, with a strong understanding of UK codes, procurement processes, and construction methods. You will hold a Level 7 qualification (MEng or equivalent) and have Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.

You will have strong technical experience in the analysis and design of below-ground drainage, SuDS, external works and highways, with proficiency in relevant design software such as Civil 3D and Causeway Flow. You will have a strong understanding of developing viable civil engineering solutions in response to a design brief, balancing technical requirements with critical constraints, flood risk, safety, sustainability and cost. You will also be confident in reviewing and overseeing design work, providing technical guidance to colleagues and ensuring solutions are robust, practical and deliverable.

At Webb Yates, we believe in working collaboratively and creatively. We value individuals who are technically strong, socially aware and eager to contribute to a supportive, design-led studio culture. In return, we offer a flexible, inclusive working environment with opportunities for professional growth and meaningful design impact.

  • Lead, manage and supervise project delivery across the civil engineering team, establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scopes of work, cost plans and agreed deliverables, including reports, calculations, specifications and drawings.
  • Agree the appropriate level of service and scope of work with the Director in line with the agreed project fee. Monitor project budgets, fee expenditure and programmes, identifying risks, design variations and resourcing requirements, and support the Director with invoicing and commercial management.
  • Lead and oversee engineering projects from concept and detailed design through to tender, construction and completion, including site supervision where required. Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with client briefs, agreed scopes and programme requirements, undertaking regular design reviews with engineers.
  • Ensure all designs, calculations and technical reports comply with relevant design codes, statutory requirements, sustainability objectives and the practice’s quality standards. Establish and maintain consistent internal design review and checking procedures.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of contract staff and third-party consultants, ensuring their work meets agreed technical, programme and commercial requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations and promoting a collaborative approach to achieve high levels of client satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients, contributing to business development activities, bids, proposals and company presentations.
  • Lead, motivate and develop staff to build cohesive, high-performing teams. Set objectives, monitor performance, and support junior team members through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing, fostering a positive, collaborative studio environment and upholding Webb Yates’ values and professional standards.
  • Contribute to team resourcing and project programming through regular weekly team meetings, identifying workload requirements, priorities and potential delivery risks.
  • Work with the Director to identify and implement personal training, continuing professional development (CPD) and career development objectives.
