Head of Accounts Receivable

Overview

In this role you will manage the Trust’s Accounts Receivable and Cashiering functions, ensuring timely and accurate billing and effective debt collection. You will lead on credit risk, governance and advisory support for Overseas Visitors, Private Patients and Category II Fee income, partnering with clinical and corporate Directorates. You will drive system development, process improvements and ensure strong financial stewardship. This is a senior, cross‑functional opportunity to shape revenue workflows and financial controls within the NHS.

Responsibilities

• Provide centralized credit control, billing and debt collection for the Trust
• Coordinate centralized resources for capture and assessment of income from Overseas Visitors, Private Patients and Category II Fees
• Ensure accurate production of timely sales invoices with appropriate terms
• Lead prompt collection of outstanding monies and debt recovery processes
• Operate an onsite cashiering facility with high standards of customer care
• Ensure adherence to governance standards and audit requirements
• Provide financial management information on outstanding debt
• Offer credit advice on new or existing areas of income
• Support Clinical and Corporate Directorates with AR and Cashiering needs

Key requirements

• Extensive management experience in Accounts Receivable and Cashiering
• Extensive staff management experience
• Track record of leading finance system development and implementation
• Experience with governance arrangements for AR and Cashiering
• Knowledge of debt recovery through due legal process
• NHS finance and accounting practices knowledge
• Experience of manipulating/interrogating ledger and information systems

• Excellent oral and written communication
• Negotiation and influencing skills
• Strong numeracy and analytical thinking
• Advanced Excel skills
• Demonstrated IT skills for finance systems
• Understanding of ledger interrogation
