Senior Director – IT Business Partner, Legal & Compliance

Overview

In this executive role, you partner with Legal and Compliance leadership to drive AI- and technology-driven transformation at global scale within a highly regulated environment. You will shape strategy, roadmaps and governance, turning legal and regulatory priorities into actionable products and platforms. You lead a product-centric IT function, manage a partner ecosystem, and demonstrate measurable value from AI-enabled legal operations. This is a strategic, influence-rich role with direct exposure to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary technology and transformation partner to General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer and their leadership teams
• Shape priorities and investment decisions as a trusted executive partner
• Translate legal, regulatory and risk challenges into outcome-driven technology roadmaps
• Promote an AI-first transformation across Legal, Compliance and IT
• Develop pilots, products and scalable capabilities from AI ideas
• Lead enterprise-grade AI and digital initiatives from experiments to sustained value
• Redesign processes around AI-enabled ways of working to maximise expert time for judgement
• Define strategy for Legal & Compliance technology estate (GRC, e-discovery, contract lifecycle, matter management)
• Evaluate build vs. buy options and manage vendor/partner landscape
• Ensure responsible AI with guardrails, governance, and auditability
• Shape data governance, privacy, security and regulatory compliance for legal data
• Develop product-centric operating model and talent strategy for the team
• Co-own value realization with Legal & Compliance, including KPIs and benefits tracking
• Own and govern the technology investment portfolio for Legal & Compliance
• Lead partnerships with vendors, outsourcing, and system integrators to drive outcomes
• Foster change management, digital upskilling and a culture of innovation

Key requirements

• 15+ years of senior technology leadership in large, global organizations
• Executive partnership with Legal, Compliance or risk functions
• Experience delivering large-scale AI and technology transformation in regulated environments
• Proven AI-first approach that delivers measurable outcomes
• Credibility in legal technology domains (GRC, e-discovery, contract lifecycle, matter management)
• Experience with enterprise platforms (ServiceNow, SAP) and automation tools
• Track record of managing significant investment portfolios and transformation roadmaps
• Experience transitioning teams to product-centric operating models and scaling talent
• Ability to communicate technology value to executives with outcomes data
• Experience managing vendors, outsourcing and advisory firms
• Strong leadership of cross-functional teams and stakeholder management
