Analytical Services Department Manager

Overview

As ASD Manager you will lead the Analytical Services Department to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality lab operations while advancing analytical method development and equipment optimization. You’ll oversee accredited testing activities and maintain ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 quality systems, representing the lab in audits and stakeholder interactions. You will provide expert technical support and drive continuous improvement, staff development, and site-wide contributions as a deputy head of the laboratory at Brinsworth. This role offers impact across quality, compliance and technical leadership within a global gas company.

Responsibilities

• Lead Analytical Services Department and ensure safe, efficient lab operations
• Drive analytical method development, resource planning and equipment optimization
• Oversee accredited testing activities and maintain ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 quality systems
• Represent the laboratory during assessments, audits and stakeholder interactions
• Provide expert technical support and investigations for internal teams and customer sites
• Champion continuous improvement, staff development and operational excellence
• Assist with site-wide functions as ASD Duty Holder and Tenant at Brinsworth

Key requirements

• Degree in Chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ technical industry experience in gas analysis or measurement science
• Ability to interpret complex technical data
• Hands-on experience with gas chromatography, X-ray fluorescence, SEM with EDX and inductively coupled plasma
• Proven experience leading technical teams (2+ members) and developing people
• Strong understanding of ISO 17025, ISO 9001 and good laboratory practice
• Clear and confident communication with internal and external stakeholders
• NEBOSH qualification advantageous
